As we approach the end of 2025, it’s a good time to reflect on the design trends that have defined this year before we move on to the next. While some trends may continue into the future, others are likely to fade away. Let’s take a look at some of the key trends of 2025 and speculate on how they may age over time.

First and foremost, it’s important to note that all the rooms featured here are beautiful in their own right. Just because they embody a particular trend doesn’t diminish their appeal. Trends are not inherently good or bad; they simply reflect the current design landscape. The challenge lies in integrating these trends into our homes in a way that feels authentic and cohesive.

Looking ahead, we can predict how these trends may evolve over the next decade. Will they stand the test of time, or will they become dated and overdone? Only time will tell, but it’s fun to speculate.

Trend #1: Checkerboard

Checkerboard patterns have been ubiquitous in 2025, adorning floors, walls, fabrics, and upholstery. This versatile pattern can be found in modern, traditional, and transitional homes, adding a touch of whimsy to any space.

While checkerboard is a classic pattern, its current popularity may wane in the coming years. As new patterns emerge, checkerboard may take a back seat in the design world, resurfacing occasionally as a nostalgic nod to the past.

Trend #2: Arches Everywhere

Arches have become a defining feature of many homes in 2025, from doorways to furniture to architectural details. While arches can add elegance and charm to a space, the trend of incorporating them into every aspect of home design may not endure. In the future, we may look back on this trend as emblematic of the early 2020s.

Trend #3: Scalloped Edges & Wave Patterns

Scalloped edges and wave patterns have surged in popularity in recent years, adding a touch of whimsy and playfulness to interiors. These details can be charming when used sparingly but may become dated if overused. As we look to the future, we may see a shift away from these decorative elements in favor of more timeless design choices.

Trend #4: Pattern Drenching & Color Drenching

Color drenching and pattern drenching have been hallmarks of maximalist design in 2025, creating bold and vibrant interiors. While these trends can make a powerful statement, they may not have long-term staying power. As tastes evolve, we may see a return to more subdued color palettes and simpler patterns.

Trend #5: Cottage Style

Cottage style has been the darling of the design world in recent years, with its cozy, charming aesthetic. While elements of cottage style are likely to endure, such as pleated fabrics and frilly details, we may see a shift towards more glamorous and palatial design influences in the future.

Trend #6: Dark, Moody Color Palettes

Dark, moody color palettes have made a comeback in 2025, bringing a sense of drama and sophistication to interiors. While these colors can create a striking atmosphere, they may fall out of favor as trends evolve. It’s hard to predict the longevity of color trends, but we may see a shift towards brighter, more cheerful palettes in the years to come.

Trend #7: Curved Furniture

Curved furniture has been a dominant trend in 2025, with sinuous sofas and curved cabinetry making a statement in many homes. While curved furniture adds a touch of elegance and modernity, it may be a passing fad. As tastes change, we may see a return to more traditional, angular forms in furniture design.

Reflecting on the trends of 2025, it’s clear that the design landscape is constantly evolving. While some trends may stand the test of time, others are destined to fade away. As we look to the future, it’s exciting to imagine what new trends will emerge and how they will shape the homes of tomorrow.
