New Year, Old (& Unfinished) Project: It’s Time to Tackle What You’ve Put Off Too Long + 4 Easy Steps To Get It Done…FINALLY

When it’s time to take down all the holiday decorations, it’s like a spotlight shining on all the neglected areas of your home. Wreaths and garlands come down, revealing the things you’ve been ignoring. As you breathe a sigh of relief and reclaim your space, you start to notice the imperfections in your home. The curtains that have been uneven for years, the cluttered bar cabinet, the unfinished DIY projects that have been lingering. These are all personal home project struggles that I can relate to. Balancing a freelance business and caring for a curious toddler leaves little time to address these issues.

But as the new year begins, it’s a time to leave the past behind and focus on tackling these neglected areas. Starting with the most visible but least overwhelming project is key. Setting a budget, establishing a deadline, and finishing one project before moving on to the next are essential steps to success.

My first project for the year is addressing the dining room curtains. The challenge lies in finding a solution for the cafe curtains that I made years ago. The fabric choice and design didn’t turn out as expected, leading to a less-than-ideal result. Options like adding a border to the existing curtains or remaking them with a different fabric are considered. Alternatively, installing curtain panels or Roman shades are also on the table.

After weighing the pros and cons, I am leaning towards dyeing existing white curtain panels a mauve color to achieve the look I desire. This cost-effective solution allows for flexibility and experimentation before committing to a more expensive option.

Stay tuned for updates on this project as I work towards completing it by the end of the month. Here’s to a fresh start in the new year!
