What is the World’s Greatest Horseman?
Established in 1999, the World’s Greatest Horseman is a premier reined cow horse event. Riders and horses face challenges in cutting, reining, fence work, and steer stopping. The event is open to all breeds and ages, emphasizing the versatility of the cow horse.
The competition tests riders and horses in four events to qualify for the 15-rider finals. Sponsors Western Bloodstock and Ray Shell Ranch present another thrilling event with top-notch competitors vying for the prestigious title and prize money.
How to Win the World’s Greatest Horseman
The World’s Greatest Horseman showcases the cow horse’s athleticism and versatility through four challenging events:
- Herd Work – Precision and control in separating a cow from the herd.
- Reined Work – Finesse in spins, circles, and sliding stops.
- Steer Stopping – Roping and dallying skills in catching and stopping a steer.
- Cow Work – Fast-paced action circling and working a cow along the fence.
Riders and horses demonstrate their skills in sliding, stopping, turning, and cutting cattle to earn the highest cumulative score across all events and claim the title of World’s Greatest Horseman.
