What Arlyn Has Planned Design-Wise For Her New Rental Home (Hint: It Involves More Yellow Velvet)

To all those who have been following my “Arlyn is moving!” series, I appreciate your continued support as we embark on this journey together. If you missed the first post, you can catch up here. Last week, I provided an update after landing in our new city and receiving our boxes and furniture. This week, I’ll be delving into my plans for design and any projects I have in mind for our new rental home.

Welcome back, friends, to another chapter in my California to (North) Carolina moving saga. While I gave you a glimpse of our new home in the previous post, today, I’ll be exploring my thoughts on designing. Moving across the country and parting ways with half of your possessions inevitably leads to a reinvention and redecoration mindset, whether you embrace it or not. I find it intriguing to contemplate how different my home could look now compared to when I last furnished it eight years ago. Back then, my husband and I were newly married and childless, but with an active preschooler now, our functional and emotional needs have evolved.

My beloved velvet blue Interior Define sectional remained in LA (it found a new home with one of Jess’ best friends, bringing me comfort knowing she gets to enjoy my old sectional!). Although I adored that cobalt piece, I was ready for a visual change. But before we proceed, let’s revisit a brief “before” tour of my new place, which we intend to rent for one to two years before purchasing our first home (!!!). I mention this early on because, given the temporary nature of our stay, I have limitations on the time and resources I’m willing to invest in this space. It’s quite pleasant as is and mainly requires some styling.

What I Kept, What I Need To Replace

If you’ve ever experienced a significant move, you know the whirlwind that takes over your mind a few weeks (or even days) before the movers arrive. Suddenly, you feel compelled to part with everything and become the most generous philanthropist with your belongings. I must say, the members of my Buy Nothing Group were incredibly fortunate.

Until next time…

Stay tuned!
