Any Truth to the Hype?
Onion
Initial studies suggest that onion juice can have a positive impact on hair loss compared to tap water.
“Onions are finally receiving recognition as a go-to beauty ingredient,” says trichologist and Colour Collective founder Kerry E Yates. “Rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, onions offer antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory benefits, making them ideal for addressing hair concerns.”
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Studies indicate that pumpkin seed oil may benefit men with alopecia by inhibiting an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, a hormone linked to hair loss. Further research is needed to determine its efficacy for female hair loss.
Manuka Honey
Recognized for its antimicrobial and wound-healing properties, manuka honey appears to aid in skin inflammation.
Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid, a chemical exfoliant, is favored by experts for its ability to exfoliate the skin effectively across various skin types.
“Glycolic acid helps in skin desquamation, or exfoliation,” explains cosmetic chemist and Society of Cosmetic Chemists president Kelly Dobos. “It loosens the desmosome, which are like tiny ‘glue’ spots between cells.”
