DIY Bedroom and Bi-Fold Closet Door Update

Transforming the Nursery/Guest Room by updating the doors was a game-changer. With a little paint and some trim, the outdated Bi-Fold closet doors and main door were completely revamped.

The original closet doors looked tired and dated, like all the other doors in the house. Painting them was a satisfying first step in the transformation process.

How to Update Outdated Interior Doors

HOW TO UPDATE DATED DOORS

Step 1

Determine the design for your doors to guide your trim selection and quantity. I chose a simple rectangle for each panel.

Step 2

Cut the trim to size using pine wood screen trim, ensuring each piece is precise and cut at a 45° angle for a seamless finish.

Apply wood glue to the back of the trim pieces.

Use a nail gun to attach the trim pieces to the door.

TIP – Ensure the nails are not too long to avoid going through the back of the door!

Fill the nail holes with spackling paste, sanding them down once dry.

Prime the doors with Kilz All Purpose Primer, applying one coat.

Paint the doors with Baby Fawn by Benjamin Moore in their Advance Paint for a sophisticated look.
