Falling in Love with the 1850s Carriage House

Discovering our property and falling in love with the charm of the 1850s carriage house was the beginning of a renovation journey filled with excitement and dread. The financial stress of the ongoing renovation projects shifted our perspective from boundless enthusiasm to a realization of the endless tasks ahead. Now, as we stand on the other side of the renovation, we are eager to slowly DIY our way through restoring this historic carriage house.

Our initial impression of the property was filled with naive optimism, overlooking the potential challenges it held. The carport, covered walkway, and green-trimmed white siding all spoke of the history and character that captivated us. Despite the worn appearance, there was a charm that we couldn’t resist.

Fast forward to 2025, and the transformation of the exterior is remarkable. The white paint, the sliding door on a train track, and the intricate details all tell a story of restoration in progress. The journey of uncovering the potential of this carriage house is filled with challenges and surprises, but the end result promises to be a testament to our dedication and love for historic homes.

Embracing the Journey of Restoration

As we navigate the intricacies of restoring the 1850s carriage house, each detail reveals a piece of its history and character. From the lap siding to the wonky windows, every element presents an opportunity to preserve the essence of this classic farmhouse. The challenges of the foundation, the roofline, and the covered walkway all contribute to the narrative of this restoration project.

Despite the uncertainties and challenges that lie ahead, our commitment to preserving the heritage and beauty of this carriage house remains unwavering. Stay tuned as we continue this journey of restoration and transformation.
