When news arrived via an embargo email this past summer that Highbrow Hippie would be introducing a new hair care and wellness line in the fall, the NewBeauty Slack channels buzzed with excitement. Situated in Venice, CA, with a view of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the Highbrow Hippie Atelier is more than just a salon—it’s a trusted hub frequented by celebrities like Julia Roberts, Meghan Markle, Kristin Davis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Amber Valletta.
Under the leadership of Kadi Lee and Myka Harris, the debut products from Highbrow Hippie arrived at my doorstep in prototype packaging. Harris explained, “We always had the idea of launching a product line. When the time came, we turned to our clients for guidance.” This led to the creation of a two-SKU debut focusing on hair health. Harris added, “Our clients felt that existing products in the market were not meeting their needs. We realized we could offer them a comprehensive system that addresses the root causes of hair loss and damage while promoting overall wellness and longevity for women.”
The Highbrow Hippie Product Lineup
The lineup includes Root Replenish Active Growth Serum ($88) and the hair-health supplement Essential Wellbeing Complex ($118 for 120 capsules). Personally, I’m not consistent with taking supplements, but knowing that Julia Roberts uses them regularly has motivated me to stick to the routine. Meghan Markle not only endorses the products in InStyle but is also an investor. She shared, “Kadi has a deep understanding of hair health, and her Highbrow Hippie collection reflects that perfectly. I’m proud to support her as a friend and a female founder.”
Harris mentioned, “We’ve seen remarkable results with clients using both the serum and supplement. People have reported increased hair growth, improved sleep, reduced bloating, stronger nails, and a heightened sense of calm. Some clients with bald patches have noticed significant improvement.”
After a few weeks, the serum has become a staple in my routine, and I find the supplement easy to incorporate daily.
The root-specific product, formulated with microbiome-balancing and nourishing technologies, fermented antioxidant-rich resveratrol, and DHT blockers, promotes a healthier scalp. The lightweight formula absorbs quickly, making hair feel denser without any greasiness, even days after a blowout.
Harris shared, “The most challenging part of the product development was bringing all the elements together to achieve the final result.” The launch hints at a hair mask and herbal tea in the works. Harris added, “Launching a product is a complex process. It required careful coordination with manufacturers and the supply chain. It was a new experience for us, and we learned a lot along the way. The amount of planning needed to bring everything together was immense!”
