After a year and a half, I am excited to share the cozy vintage modern bedroom refresh that has transformed our space. Life got in the way, but we finally made it happen. The changes we made have completely transformed the vibe of our bedroom, creating the cozy vintage modern bedroom of my dreams. It’s been a journey, but after 9 years in this home, our bedroom finally feels just right.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember where we started before this refresh. It wasn’t bad, but over time, I’ve come to appreciate more character, depth, rich colors, and wood tones in my spaces. I was tired of our plain white walls and decided it was time for a change.

After exploring ideas on Pinterest, I was inspired by dark wood paneled walls that exude character and an old-world charm. I was determined to achieve this look, so we embarked on a DIY project to create our own version using different pieces of wood.

We used 1/4″ plywood as the base and added different trim pieces to achieve the desired look. All the trim was sourced locally from Baird Brothers. The wood was stained with my favorite dark walnut gel stain, resulting in a stunning finish.

The top half of the walls was treated with a limewash from Meoded Paint in the color villa, adding more character and depth to the plain walls.
The fireplace had been updated earlier with stone, so the focus of this refresh was on adding built-ins and a window bench. We enlisted the help of a cabinet maker, Ben from Haug Cabinetry and Design, to create custom drawer fronts for a more refined look.

The drawers feature intricate details inspired by a British design I saw on Instagram, beautifully recreated by Ben. After much deliberation, the walls were painted in Muddled Basil, complementing the overall aesthetic.
I found a stunning desk on the marketplace, stained to match the walls, and adorned with a gallery wall for a personal touch.
And now, the grand reveal of our new cozy vintage modern bedroom!

The colors and textures in this space blend beautifully, creating a perfect balance of comfort, coziness, and sophistication.

The addition of built-ins and a window bench has made this space more functional and aesthetic. The wardrobes provide ample storage, replacing the old dressers and adding a touch of elegance.
Inside the wardrobes, we are still finalizing the setup with shelving, hanging rods, and other storage solutions to maximize functionality.

The closet received a simple yet impactful makeover with fabric and wood framing, blending seamlessly with the room’s aesthetic.

Our bedroom fireplace often fools people into thinking it’s in the living room. The reclaimed wood framing the doorway leads to the master bathroom, adding to the European cottage vibe.

Walking into the room reveals the stone fireplace that set the tone for the refresh. The European cottage vibe inspired the subsequent changes we made in the space.

The mantel, crafted from reclaimed wood, and the roadside-find velvet chair add charm and character to the space.
