January is the perfect time to declutter and reset. I spent the weekend sorting through piles of clutter and reorganizing my home. How about you? If you follow Em on Instagram, you might have seen her decluttering journey. She’s been tackling cluttered areas one by one with great determination. Jess recently shared a fantastic roundup of storage solutions, including over-the-door storage and a narrow shoe cabinet that caught my eye.

While buying specific organizing solutions can be helpful, I started to rethink how I store things while taking down my Christmas decorations. Instead of purchasing new storage containers, I decided to repurpose the Amazon boxes I had. I realized that there are many items at home that can be repurposed for storage. Here are some DIY organization ideas:
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reorganize With Cardboard:
Cardboard is an underrated material that most of us have at home. I plan to paint or cover empty boxes with patterned paper or fabric to give them a new look. For smaller sizes, they can be used as drawer organizers. You can also use toilet paper rolls for cord organization or cereal boxes to create magazine holders.
2. Level Up With Wood Crafts:
If you have wood scraps lying around, consider DIY storage builds like floating shelves or hidden wall storage using simple picture frames and hinges. Wooden dowels can also be used as shoe storage or hanging rods for pants.
3. Re-Imagine Existing Storage Solutions:
Repurpose items like plate holders for drawer organization, or hang them on the wall for a floating bookshelf. You can also use closet rods or curtain rods for shoe storage or make use of kid’s hangers for efficient closet organization.
There are endless possibilities for creative storage solutions if you take the time to repurpose items you already have. Whether you prefer DIY projects or ready-made solutions, finding the right storage system is essential for maintaining an organized space. Consider thrift stores or online marketplaces for unique storage finds. Get creative and share your storage ideas in the comments!
