When you think of frizz, you probably think of summer weather. And while that is true—my hair is out of control when it’s humid—some treatments are great year-round. In colder weather, our hair gets dry, just like our skin. Rodan + Fields DEFRIZZ+ Oil Treatment shields hair from frizz and locks hydration into parched strands, so you get the best of both worlds. Here’s my honest review.

What I Love About This Frizz Treatment

I’ve often been scared of hair oils because my hair is fine, but this one allays my fears. It’s lightweight and doesn’t make my hair look or feel greasy. Instead, it keeps it hydrated and soft. My hair looks so much healthier and has a really pretty sheen when I use it. I also love the added benefit of protection against color fading (I’m a balayage devotee) and heat damage (I love a good curling iron). Lastly, it smells nice. It’s the kind of warm-floral scent you want to linger in your hair so you can keep smelling it throughout the day. According to the brand, the fragrance notes include marine, freesia, plumeria, ylang-ylang, water lily, sandalwood, blond wood and amber.

In testing, the treatment protected hair from frizz for 72 hours. This was based on instrumental analysis after one use at 80-percent relative humidity. It also doubled the hair’s shine and made it 94-percent smoother and 85-percent stronger with less breakage after one use.

How to Use It

Rub a couple drops between your palms and then work your hands through your hair when it’s damp, from the mid-lengths down. A little goes a long way, and you only need a couple drops. I use about three on my hair, but it’s very long. With any concentrated hair treatment, I always recommend starting with less your first time. There’s nothing worse than going overboard and ending up with a greasy mess that forces you to hop back in the shower.

You can also use a little bit on dry hair, focusing on the ends. This is a great way to smooth split ends between salon appointments whey they look frayed. The brand says you can also apply some to your scalp and/or hair and let it sit for a few minutes before shampooing, which will give your hair a nice boost of hydration.
