Selena Gomez, the founder of a major beauty brand, a star of a hit TV show, and a seasoned pop star, always has her skin under scrutiny. The 33-year-old has been open about her skin throughout her career, but recently took to social media to address a question about her upper lip.
In a post shared on Tuesday, December 16, the Only Murders in the Building actress responded to a query about how she shaves her “mustache.” Gomez candidly explained that it was not a mustache, but melasma above her lip, with her signature honesty and humor.
Melasma, caused by an overproduction of melanin often due to sun exposure, appears as brown or gray patches on the skin. While it commonly appears on the upper lip, it can sometimes be mistaken for hair due to its shadow-like discoloration.
Gomez continued her transparency by revealing, “I actually have melasma and a pimple,” zooming in to show proof. Her openness about her skin is refreshing for many women, resonating with the message that authenticity is key even amidst constant scrutiny.
