As another heat advisory blankets much of the country, it’s evident that the dog days of summer are here. The sweltering days of late summer may be exhausting, but there are plenty of quick pick-me-ups to lift your spirits and enhance your beauty routine, especially with a sizzling summer manicure. If you’re feeling uninspired, fear not. OPI Global Ambassador and celebrity nail artist, Natalie Minerva, has identified three unconventional summer nail trends that are sure to break you out of your summer mani rut.
The ‘Deviled’ French
Yes, you read that correctly. Minerva’s first suggestion for a summer nail trend is a bold twist on the traditional French manicure. “This nail design takes the classic tip and adds a spicy touch with fiery red curves and polka dots that exude summer drama,” Minerva explains. To achieve this look, consider using OPI’s Gel Color in Big Apple Red, Black Onyx, and Pearl-Clutching Behavior.
3D ‘Hobnails’
Inspired by the textured design of short, thick hobnails typically used for boot reinforcement, Minerva introduces bubble-inspired hobnail manicures as another quirky summer nail trend that originated from one of her A-list clients and summer icon, Addison Rae. “This nail trend incorporates glossy, 3D elements like bubbles or raised gel textures that add depth to the nail art,” she describes. For Addison’s look, Minerva utilized OPI’s I’m Flawless Builder Gel on top of the brand’s GELevate Soft Gel Tips in Almond.
The ‘Juicy’ Double French
The double French manicure has been a popular trend for some time now, and Minerva’s “juicy” twist on the style for summer accentuates the dimensional design by incorporating a bit of texture. “Introducing the French manicure’s bubbly sibling, the Double French,” Minerva reveals. “This design offers a contemporary, playful spin on the classic. Elevate the look by adding a gem to the center of the nail.” For this particular look, Minerva used OPI’s Cotton Candied Clawz for a delicate pink hue.
