Malaysia is home to four out of 13 otter species, often found in wetlands and coastal areas. Recently, a family of otters near Pantai Puteri Melaka caught the attention of local fishermen and visitors as they approached for a lunchtime snack.
Captured on camera, these charming otters were spotted begging for food on the beach while fishermen were busy with their catch.
In the footage, the otters were joyfully swimming along the shore, playfully interacting with the fishermen for some treats.
Commenters gushed over the cuteness of the otters, with some even expressing interest in keeping them as pets.
However, due to the declining otter population, experts strongly advise against keeping them as pets, emphasizing that otters are a protected species under Malaysian law. It is illegal to capture, kill, trade, or own them without proper authorization.
Let’s appreciate these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat and ensure that they, along with other wildlife, have a safe environment to thrive in.
