We Closed For The National Shutdown (…And Exploring My Role Of “Influencer” During Cultural Events)

Today, EHD has chosen to participate in the national shutdown, resulting in the closure of our office. As the person in charge, the decision was an easy one for me, although I acknowledge that not everyone has the privilege to participate. While most kids are attending school and many small businesses in Portland remain open, I believe it is important to support local establishments. One impactful action we can take today is to refrain from purchasing anything from large corporations that hold significant government influence. The national news may not have covered the shutdown extensively, but the delay in the vote is a positive development.

It is crucial to show solidarity with our immigrant friends and families. While border security and deportations are important, the current practices of ICE, characterized by inadequate training, lack of due process for immigrants, and absence of accountability, are unacceptable.

Respectful dialogue is key, and I appreciate the constructive conversations that took place on Monday. Regardless of political beliefs, expressing dissent towards the current situation demonstrates courage and integrity. It is essential to empower individuals to speak out in their own way, without fear of judgment or criticism.

On Influencers “Speaking Out”

Having a platform comes with a responsibility to use it for good. “Speaking out” can take various forms, and there is no one right way to do it. Engaging in meaningful conversation and avoiding divisive tactics can lead to more productive outcomes. It is important to respect the choices of influencers who may choose to remain silent on certain issues.

My decision to address recent events was driven by a desire to connect with our audience and foster a sense of unity. While some may prefer a more confrontational approach, I believe in the power of respectful dialogue to effect change.

As a company, we strive to create a positive and inclusive environment through our content. We aim to inspire and uplift our readers, rather than perpetuate division or negativity. Our goal is to provide a platform that offers a respite from the constant news cycle and promotes constructive conversation.

Ultimately, our focus is on creating a welcoming space where people can find inspiration, enjoyment, and a sense of community. We value the opportunity to make a positive impact and are committed to upholding values of accountability, fairness, and empathy.

Thank you for being a part of our community. Your support is greatly appreciated. xx Emily
