Lizzo is mindful of the attention her body transformation journey has garnered and is careful with her words when discussing it.

On Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Lizzo shared insights into the changes her body has undergone in the past year. She refrains from labeling her weight loss as a loss, emphasizing that she sees it as a release of negativity. “The weight that is no longer on me is not just physical. I released so much to get to this point, and I don’t want to view it as a loss,” she explained. “I’ve gained so much more than I’ve lost.”

Lizzo attributes her shift in perspective on her body to her boyfriend, comedian Mike Wright. When she mentioned losing five pounds to him, his response, “Where did it go?” made her rethink her approach. “I want to win. I want to gain,” she realized.

Recognizing the impact her words can have on others, especially young people, Lizzo is intentional about her body-positive messaging. She understands the influence media portrayal of weight can have on self-image and aims to counteract toxic beauty ideals.

Although she sometimes grapples with societal pressures around diet culture, Lizzo is firm in dismissing those thoughts. She strives to be a beacon of positivity in a world filled with unrealistic beauty standards.

Lizzo embraces the responsibility of being a positive role model, acknowledging how her own weight journey has resonated with others. She aims to create a safe space for individuals to feel comfortable in their bodies and less fearful of societal expectations.
