Several years ago, I stumbled upon the concept of a “Thanksgiving dress.” But what exactly is a Thanksgiving dress, you might wonder? It’s a flowy, comfortable dress in a plaid or fall pattern that still manages to make you feel cute, even after a long day of cooking and eating. I remember finding a fabulous one at J.Crew that many of you also loved, although it’s no longer available. Fortunately, there’s a similar one on Poshmark for anyone lucky enough to snag it. I still wear mine every year, and I’m sure many of you do too. Surprisingly, most of the EHD team had never explored the world of Thanksgiving dresses until now. So, we decided to follow my rules and see what Thanksgiving dresses are out there this year that each of us likes. Spoiler alert: we all found some great options. Here are our guidelines for finding the perfect dress:
- Flowy & comfy (breathable enough to cook all day or stand around in a warm kitchen)
- Plaid/Fall Print/Fall colors (forgiving and fun to wear)
- Bonus points for pockets (convenient for carrying your phone or essentials while moving around)
Let’s take a look at our dress lineup!

Height: 5’7″
Dress Size: Medium (Blue) + Small (Pink)
As soon as I began my search, I came across these two dresses and couldn’t help but think how cute they are! They are super comfy, smocked, and perfect for small-chested ladies like me. The plaid patterns are adorable, and both the medium and small sizes fit me well. I particularly prefer the medium in blue, even though I typically wear a small, so don’t hesitate to size up. The blue dress is a medium, and the pink dress is a small. I fell in love with this dress when I saw it in the store. It’s flowy, has a cute pattern, and while it doesn’t have pockets, I couldn’t resist its style. The long sleeves stay up, making it easy to cook comfortably. I adore the festive neckline with the little tie – it’s breathable, stylish, and perfect for the occasion. Also, I definitely need a spray tan!
