There have been several questions about this project that I haven’t addressed yet, so let’s dive into them. The main purpose of this house is to serve as a flexible space that can be used for various functions. It could potentially be a guest cottage, an office, a music room, a game room, or a guest bedroom. The idea is to make it functional for a variety of purposes, but not to the same extent as if it were our primary residence. The layout of the house will remain mostly unchanged, with the addition of a full bathroom on the first floor.
Budget and Timeline
Given the extensive work needed, the budget for this project could easily reach $500k. We plan to tackle the renovations slowly over time, focusing on essential elements and design features that excite us. As for the timeline, we aren’t in a rush to complete the project as we don’t need to live in the house. We aim to balance the renovation process with our other commitments and pay for it as we go.
DIY vs. Hiring Out
This project marks the first time we are not hiring a General Contractor to save costs. I am personally invested in learning the entire renovation process and will be project managing the work myself. While some tasks will be outsourced, I plan to handle many aspects of the renovation with the help of family and friends.
Style and Partnerships
As for the style of the house, we are aiming for a vintage, cozy, and colorful vibe inspired by its charming character. We plan to incorporate unique design elements and furniture pieces to create a comfortable yet visually interesting space. While we are not actively seeking partnerships at the moment, we are open to collaborating with brands or platforms that align with the vision of this project.
Next Steps
The first priority is fixing the foundation, which will be a lengthy process. We will be sharing updates on the renovation progress and design decisions along the way. Our goal is to engage our audience in the journey and welcome their ideas and feedback.
If you’re interested in learning more about the history of the house or following along with the restoration process, stay tuned for future updates. Thank you for your support!
