Our Complete Kid/Tweens/Teen Gift Guide (All The Stuff They ACTUALLY Want)

It can be quite a challenge to shop for kids when they are in that 10/12 age group. They still enjoy stuffed animals but also think they need laptops! Some of the simplest things like a Simpson’s prank phone and a Magic 8 Ball have managed to hold their attention for years. Other toys like a sculpture straw kit and fuse beads have been favorites for 6-8 years. It’s definitely a tough task! This year, I even sought the help of a 16-year-old teenager to find out what teenage girls are interested in, which was incredibly useful. And at the end, I’ve included my go-to gifts for small kids and babies based on my own experiences.

Our Favorite Art Supplies (Ages 6-teen)

Kid/Tweens/Teen Gift Guide

Hey Clay: This airdry clay comes in the best colors and with inspirational guides, allowing kids to create adorable creatures. It’s non-sticky, dries fast, and offers a variety of themes. Art Set: Elliot has been loving this 91-piece art set from last year.

Posca Markers: Elliot’s top choice for paint markers, suitable for older kids. They come in great colors and she enjoys using them. artPOP! Watercolor Pencils: Her favorite watercolor pencils, loved for their colors, application, and tube packaging.

For her birthday, I got her an LED art screen which she’s having a great time with, especially with her friends.

Magnetic Dartboard: Excited about this addition to Charlie’s room, a magnetic dartboard that sticks solidly and rolls up easily. Perfect for indoor activities during the winter months. Pac-Man Countercade: A big hit as a present last year.

Record Player: Encouraging analog experiences, the record player is a hit when friends are over. Electronic Indoor Hoop: Interactive hoop game that keeps score and provides entertainment.

Three of Elliot’s favorite things:

Charlie’s favorite ‘Non-video Game’ Game

Charlie and I enjoy playing chess together, and he even saved his allowance to buy this cool chess board, mostly because…it’s magnetic! Sometimes we start a game in the morning before school, and if we don’t finish, we can easily move it to another table. It’s great for car trips too.

It’s dark in the PNW, so getting the kids outside on dry days is important. Night vision goggles are a dream for a 12-year-old boy. And don’t forget walkie-talkies too. I’m really excited about the glow-in-the-dark basketball and flying light-up frisbees with great reviews.

Fun Things For Their Rooms

As kids grow older, they become interested in posters and collectibles. Some popular choices with our kids include the Cordless graphic lamp, Neon Smiley Face Light, and Cinema light box. LED light strips that integrate with Alexa/Google and soft faux fur blankets are also favorites.

Mölkky Yard Game is a Scandinavian wooden peg game that our family enjoys playing on camping trips. Rummikub is another favorite game for all of us.

Interactive Splurgy Classics

YOTO Mini is a storytelling device that has improved over the years and is highly recommended for younger kids. Toybox 3D Printer is a cool gadget that our kids still find fascinating. Disco ball lightbulbs are a hit and come at a great price.

Nail Files in the shape of kittens are a unique stocking stuffer idea. Kindle Paperwhite is a popular choice for reading, especially for our kids.

Charlie’s Favorite Clothes

The style for kids these days is all about being laid-back and comfy. Baggy clothes and silver chains are in, and the Vans hoodie even glows in the dark. Don’t forget to show off your socks, preferably with a swoosh.

Magic Kit by Justin Willman is a clever and solid choice for young magicians.
