Crue Dowers Wins Snaffle Bit Futurity Non-Pro

Crue Dowers and Daisy Jane secured the Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro titles at the 2026 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity presented by Metallic Cat with a total score of 656.

The duo earned $50,000 for Triple D Ranches, the Dowers family’s ranch, with $40,000 for the Non Pro title and $10,000 for the Intermediate Non Pro title. In the competition, the teenager from Dyer, Nevada, scored 217 in the herd work, 218 in the reining, and 221 in the fence work.

Additionally, they received $15,390 from the Western Bloodstock Sale incentive. Daisy Jane was sold by Beechfork Ranch in 2024 as a yearling for $250,000.

“It’s just a blessing,” said Crue, 16. “We work so hard, she’s such a great horse, and she deserves it all. It’s such a big title, and I just couldn’t be more thankful.”

A Second Chance in the Family

“Daisy” initially came to Fort Worth, Texas, as the Open Futurity horse for Crue’s father, Nick Dowers. When they faced challenges in the herd work, Nick offered Crue the opportunity to show the mare in the Non Pro division.

This wasn’t the first time the family experienced such a situation. At the 2025 Snaffle Bit Futurity, Nick encountered a similar issue with another horse, and Crue’s sister, Tuli, stepped in to win the Non Pro Boxing title. This year, it was Crue’s turn, and he was well-prepared.

Crue had already been familiar with Daisy from assisting his father at home.

“I’ve ridden her quite a bit, just at the house here and there, trying to take some off my dad’s plate,” Crue mentioned. “I’ve known her, and I got comfortable really fast this week.”

Being homeschooled, Crue manages his schoolwork around his riding schedule.

“I ride pretty much every day,” Crue stated. “I ride a lot, team rope a lot … and then do school just in the early mornings and evenings.”

The Cow Horse Triathlon

Crue excels in the reining and fence work disciplines. Leading into the finals, he was most concerned about the herd work.

“A lot can happen in the herd work,” Crue explained.

Despite his concerns, he managed to score 217 in the herd work and 218 in the reining. His father, Nick, closely observed each run, providing assistance when needed.

Before the fence work, Nick’s advice to Crue was straightforward.

“He told me to go work the cow they gave me, do my job and do the work I prepared to do,” Crue shared.

Heading into the fence work, Crue was leading by one point in the composite score. While aware of the title being within reach, he focused on executing his performance.

“I knew it all comes down to getting down the fence, and I knew anything could happen,” Crue acknowledged.

Despite facing some challenges during the run, Daisy Jane showcased her skills, resulting in a high score of 221 in the fence work.

Built From a Million-Dollar Mare

Daisy Jane, a sorrel mare born in 2023, is sired by Metallic Cat and out of Scooters Daisy Dukes, by Dual Smart Rey. Her dam, Scooters Daisy Dukes, holds a significant position as one of the most influential producers in the cow horse industry. In 2024, she achieved the title of the NRCHA’s first Million Dollar Dam.

Scooters Daisy Dukes has notable offspring, including Scooter Kat and Hazardouz Material, who have made their mark in the equine world. Crue described Daisy Jane as a calm and cooperative mare.

To add a sentimental touch to their victory, Crue rode Daisy in a snaffle bit that his father won at a county fair in 2011, showcasing the bond between the family and their love for the sport.

For Crue, the win is a collective achievement that he credits to the unwavering support of his family.

“I want to thank my family for all their support,” Crue expressed. “All the early mornings, late nights … it’s what gets me through it and helps us get ready.”
