It’s like the classic “give a mouse a cookie” scenario. Here’s the scoop – I decided to add this amazing painting in the stair landing, and it brought so much joy and color to the room. It made me realize how much I love vibrant colors! I tend to go back and forth between thinking “I’m sophisticated and love neutrals” to “GIVE ME ALL THE COLOR”, just like my daughter when she was 6. It all depends on the phase of life I’m in (when things are chaotic, I gravitate towards neutrals, but when things are calm, I embrace bold colors). A therapist could probably have a field day analyzing this. I always love color, but sometimes I crave more of it, and right now, I’m all about the color.
So, the first step was adding the painting. Then, due to back injuries, we had to hire movers to help with furniture. While they were around, I had a wild idea. Let’s try the heaviest hutch in the world in the living room. The verdict is still out on that one.
Originally, we had a gray antique piece in the living room, which I bought from Round Top. It had a farmhouse, primitive vibe, but in our current house, it just looks like a drab gray piece. So, we decided to swap it for a midcentury piece, which I prefer. However, it’s not my absolute favorite. It was a quick purchase before a big Real Simple shoot, and while it serves its purpose, it’s not very special. So, when the opportunity arose to try out the hutch, I jumped on it.
Where Is This Vintage Hutch From?
The hutch was purchased on 1stDibs about five years ago from Sweden or maybe Finland. I fell in love with its color and patina. Originally meant for the sunroom, it ended up in the guest cottage for almost five years due to limited wall space. Now, it’s finally inside, and I have mixed feelings about it.
