The Run For A Million Cow Horse Night is set to showcase a thrilling evening of cattle-focused competition at South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. The event lineup includes the $250,000 Cow Horse Challenge, along with the Breakaway Roping Showcase, Youth Cow Horse Challenge, and Cowboy Heritage Ranch Challenge.

$250,000 Cow Horse Challenge
The highlight of Cow Horse Night is the $250,000 Cow Horse Challenge, featuring 15 of the top open reined cow horse riders competing for one of the biggest prizes in the reined cow horse world. The field includes multiple World Champions who have earned their spots through the season’s qualifying events.

The Cow Horse Challenge kicks off with the rein work on Thursday, Aug. 13, where open riders will compete on NRCHA Pattern 12. The rein work scores will carry over to Friday’s fence work, and the combined scores will determine the overall champion.
The 15 spots in the field are secured through three qualifying events:
- National Stock Horse Association Pre-Futurity, Las Vegas, Nevada
- NRCHA Stallion Stakes, April 26, 2026, Las Vegas, Nevada
- NRCHA Derby, June 26, 2026, Scottsdale, Arizona
The fence work portion takes place on Friday, Aug. 14, during Cow Horse Night. Riders will be judged on boxing the cow, turning the cow down the fence, and driving the cow in controlled circles. The highest-scoring runs will exhibit control, difficulty, and proper form.
More Action on Cow Horse Night
In addition to the Cow Horse Challenge, Cow Horse Night will feature a lineup of other cattle events starting at 6 p.m. with the Breakaway Roping Showcase, followed by the Youth Cow Horse Challenge and Cowboy Heritage Ranch Challenge.
Breakaway Roping Showcase
A new addition to The Run For A Million lineup in 2026, the $50,000-added Breakaway Roping Showcase will bring together 20 top breakaway ropers, including invited champions and qualifiers from the Hamilton LCQ and the PWR Championship.
Youth Cow Horse Challenge
Eleven young riders who qualified through the 2026 World’s Greatest Youth Horseman in Fort Worth will have the opportunity to compete in the Youth Cow Horse Challenge. The event follows the same format as the open division, with rein work on Thursday and cow work on Friday.
Cowboy Heritage Ranch Challenge
The $30,000 Cowboy Heritage Ranch Challenge will bring together one cowboy from each of 10 working heritage ranches, including 6666 Ranch, Pitchfork Ranch, and Wagonhound Ranch. Competitors will showcase traditional reining and cow work skills, along with steer stopping.
With a lineup of four events spanning different disciplines and levels of competition, Cow Horse Night promises an exciting evening for fans of reined cow horse, breakaway roping, and working ranch traditions at The Run For A Million.
