This month has been incredibly rewarding and enjoyable. We completed my sister’s kitchen renovation, finished the beautiful Beth room makeover, and traveled to California to install our Velux tiny house. It was a busy three weeks of consecutive team-sponsored makeovers that consumed all of our time. Marlee is sorting through months of footage, capturing every moment of each project. I am truly grateful for my hardworking team. However, I must admit that I neglected the guest cottage for weeks until last weekend when I had to clean up for our annual fall school fundraiser. The upcoming holiday shoots in mid-October require at least two rooms to be ready for decoration.
My original intention for this project has evolved over time as I have learned more about myself. One of my biggest flaws is my optimistic belief that I can do things beyond my capabilities. This was evident in my failed attempts at DIY remodeling, especially in the vegetable garden. I had grand visions of Brian and I doing the work ourselves, but the reality of the time and skill required soon became apparent. We eventually had to hire professionals to complete the flooring and cladding, a task that would have taken us much longer with subpar results.
As the project progresses, I have come to terms with the fact that my time and skills are better suited for other aspects of the renovation. While I initially wanted to DIY certain elements, I now understand the importance of hiring experts to ensure the best possible outcome. The experience has taught me to appreciate the expertise and precision that skilled home remodelers bring to the table.
The update on the project includes progress on the flooring, plumbing, electrical work, staining the game room floor, and plans for doors and trim work. The kitchen cabinets, upstairs rooms, and the old prop room are also works in progress. Despite some setbacks and changes in plans, I am excited to see how the project unfolds and am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow throughout the process.
In conclusion, the project has been a learning experience that has highlighted the importance of recognizing one’s limitations and seeking help when needed. While I may not excel in DIY remodeling, I am confident in my abilities to design and create spaces that are functional and beautiful. The journey continues, and I look forward to sharing more updates as the project nears completion.
