This group consists of yearling performance fillies, and I assess them based on how well they align with the demands of their potential careers. While some horses can overcome conformation flaws to excel, a horse with better balance and structure will have an easier path to success.
For instance, a horse with high hocks as a yearling will likely have high hocks throughout its life. This conformation can hinder the horse’s ability to lift its front end and reach underneath with its hind legs. Such a horse will have to work harder compared to one with a more level alignment from knees to hocks. Additionally, high-hocked conformation may increase the risk of lameness in the future.
