Since childhood, horses always seemed like a distant dream, belonging to a world I could only admire from afar. Growing up in a family with financial constraints, the idea of owning horses, taking lessons, or competing felt out of reach. Despite this reality, I held onto the dream of riding, showing, and experiencing the bond between horse and rider.
Little did I know that this dream would lead me to the 2026 IHSA National Championship.

Finding Confidence at Middle Tennessee State University
My journey took a turn when I pursued a horse science major at Middle Tennessee State University. Coming from a non-horse background, I felt intimidated and unsure of myself. However, my head coach, Ariel Higgins, and graduate student coaches, JoBeth and Haley, believed in me and provided the support I needed to thrive in this new environment.
Transitioning into showing horses felt surreal. Winning my first ribbon was a moment of realization that I had finally stepped into the dream I had carried for so long.
Looking back, it wasn’t just about the horses or competitions, but the people who guided me every step of the way.
Experiencing the 2026 IHSA National Championship at Tryon
Stepping into Tryon International for Nationals was a breathtaking experience. The energy, the horses, and the grandeur of the facility made everything feel magical. The passion of my coaches made the trip even more meaningful, as they ensured we appreciated every moment of being there.
After days of preparation, horse selection day arrived, bringing a mix of nerves and excitement.
Horse Selection and Preparing to Compete
During selection rides, I rode Happy and Jolene, feeling the pressure of performing in front of a large audience. Despite the initial nervousness, I found joy in the experience, especially when riding Jolene for the first time.
The surprise of Jolene being selected for my class filled me with gratitude and anticipation for the upcoming competition.
The night before the competition was filled with restless thoughts and fears, but eventually, the excitement took over.

Competing at IHSA Nationals

Finishing Top 10
Earning an eighth-place ribbon at the IHSA Nationals was a moment of immense pride and gratitude. It was a testament to the journey from dreaming about horses to competing among the top riders in the country.
My coaches, teammates, family, and all those who supported me along the way made this achievement possible. The experience taught me that dreams can become reality with the right opportunities, belief in oneself, and a supportive community.
The 2026 IHSA National Championships not only gave me a ribbon but also the realization that with determination and support, any dream is achievable.
