Gretchen Made A Switch! Here’s How She Designed This Small Space For Guests, Just In Time For Holiday Hosting

Hello, dear reader! Does this wallpaper seem familiar to you? Perhaps you remember the MOTO photo from my previous makeover reveal? The one where I transformed the smaller of my two bedrooms with DIY fabric wallpaper, squeezed in a queen bed, and claimed it as my own? Or maybe you recall my recent post where I shared my spooky second bedroom, also known as “The Doom Room,” and considered swapping the two?

The TLDR version is this – I loved my original bedroom design and planned to keep the furniture and fabric wallpaper forever. However, I made the mistake of choosing the smaller room as my personal bedroom, leaving the larger room as my “office.” Unfortunately, the larger space became a storage area for estate sale finds, craft supplies, and miscellaneous items I wanted to hide away. Frustrated with the clutter in my own bedroom, I decided to swap the two rooms in hopes of creating more space and freeing up the smaller room for guests. So, I took the plunge, moved my bed and dresser to the larger room (which I’m loving), and transformed the wallpapered room into a new project – a nearly blank canvas.

During the room switch, I had the serendipitous opportunity to collaborate with AllModern for a story about hosting holiday visitors. This partnership, combined with my desire to declutter and design a thoughtful guest space, inspired me to revamp the spare room. I can’t wait to share the transformation with you.
