Trade Shows and Home Trends

Attending trade shows and exploring market trends are integral parts of my work as a design writer and editor. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the High Point Spring Market in North Carolina, a hub for furniture design in the United States.

As I walked through the showrooms, I observed a shift towards warm, earthy colors and authentic textures. It was a refreshing change from the usual bright and peppy spring designs.

Suiting Textiles

One of the prominent trends at the High Point Market was the use of “suiting” textiles like plaid, tweed, and pinstripes. This fashion-forward approach in home decor reflects the influence of clothing trends on interior design.

Suiting Textiles

From taupe stripes to tweed upholstery, these fabrics added a touch of elegance to furniture pieces. Brands like Rowe Furniture and Cisco Home showcased stunning pieces that resonated with this trend.

Faux Fur Everywhere

While bouclé is fading out, faux fur is making a bold statement in accent seating. Despite initial skepticism, the cozy and comfortable nature of faux fur textures is winning over designers and consumers alike.

Blockprint Fabric and Bedding

The timeless appeal of block print fabrics was evident in large upholstery pieces and bedding collections. The delicate florals paired with stripes created a harmonious balance in the showcased designs.

Metal Detailing

Ironwork detailing emerged as a surprising trend, adding a touch of industrial charm to furniture pieces. The use of iron and metal elements on seating structures provided a unique twist to traditional designs.

Rounded-Off Everything

Soft, rounded edges dominated the furniture pieces, including wooden tables and seating arrangements. The sinuous curves added a sense of fluidity and grace to the overall aesthetic.

Warm-Undertones and Earthy Colors

Olive green, chocolate brown, terracotta, and mustard hues stole the show, replacing the cool-toned grays and blues of previous seasons. The warm undertones created a cozy and inviting atmosphere in the showcased interiors.

Nautical Blues

Coastal references and beachy blues made a subtle appearance in the design landscape, hinting at a serene and relaxed aesthetic. Soft blues and creams evoked a sense of tranquility and seaside charm.

As I reflect on my experience at the High Point Market, I am excited to see how these emerging trends will shape the future of home decor. Each design element showcased a unique blend of style and functionality, paving the way for innovative and inspiring interiors.
