A good blowdryer is crucial in my hair styling routine, and probably in yours as well. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, and every stylist who has ever given me a blowout has mentioned that my hair tends to retain water. When you combine these two factors, you get a recipe for a long drying time. We all know that more styling leads to more damage, especially with heat styling. Therefore, I am always on the lookout for styling tools that can reduce damage and time without compromising on results. The new L’Oréal Professionnel Airlight Pro hair dryer fits the bill and more. It was so popular that it sold out within a month of its professional launch to salons and hairstylists, and now it is available to everyone.

The Backstory

Initially, you might be thinking that you have seen an infrared blowdryer before, so what makes this one different? You are not mistaken. In 2022, a brand called Zuvi introduced its Halo Hair Dryer, which utilized its innovative infrared technology. This technology even won the 2023 Innovation Beauty Award. However, for Zuvi to expand its reach to the right channels and reach thousands of salons and stylists, it made sense to partner with a beauty giant in that field. This is where the collaboration with L’Oréal Professionnel came into play.

“L’Oréal Professionnel and Zuvi began collaborating in January 2022 to develop a professional hair dryer that incorporates Zuvi’s patented infrared technology,” explains Mounia Tahiri, the general manager of U.S. L’Oréal Professionnel. “Together, we pushed the boundaries of hair-drying technology. Zuvi’s initial innovation provided a solid foundation, and through our collaboration, we were able to refine and optimize the balance of wind and heat. This resulted in an even more powerful and efficient dryer. We involved professional hairstylists in the development process, creating a true synergy of beauty and technology.”

The Benefits of This Blowdryer

What sets the AirLight Pro apart from other dryers in its category is its unique approach to drying hair. “Instead of relying solely on conventional convection heat, which can be harsh on hair, it is augmented with infrared light,” says Tahiri. This feature allows it to dry hair quickly without causing damage. When I first tried Zuvi in 2022, I was impressed by the eco-friendly mission, technology, and design, but it didn’t really impact my drying time. With the Airlight Pro, my hair dried significantly faster. It almost halved the drying time. I timed it, and my very long, water-retaining hair was completely dry in just 10 minutes.

This fast drying time is thanks to the AirLight Pro’s innovative technology, which mimics nature’s way of drying. “Imagine a rainforest: after a downpour, the combination of sunlight and gentle breezes quickly dries the lush vegetation,” explains Tahiri. “We have replicated this process. Our infrared light, a powerful yet gentle form of infrared, works alongside convection technology. The 17-blade motor generates high-speed wind, up to 130mph. The infrared light and convection heat warm the hair, while the precisely engineered airflow efficiently removes moisture. This combined approach ensures fast drying without causing damage, leaving the hair looking and feeling healthy.”

The dryer includes two magnetic attachments: a diffuser and a concentrator. Additionally, there is a companion app that allows you to customize your blow-dry sessions. “The AirLight Pro also offers unparalleled customization,” says Tahiri. “Our app enables you to tailor the settings precisely to your hair type and desired style. Whether you have fine, thick, curly, or straight hair, you can adjust the temperature and airflow to achieve optimal results. It’s like having a personalized stylist integrated into your hair dryer.”
