When you receive a positive pregnancy test, there are certain things you must bid farewell to, such as alcohol, sushi, and retinol. As a beauty editor, I was aware of the numerous retinol alternatives available, but I wanted to ensure that whatever I applied to my skin was as natural and safe as possible while still maintaining its glow.
Introducing Almora Botanica’s Serum for Fine Lines ($80), a formula inspired by Ayurveda that the brand claims is 99.2 percent natural-origin. The serum combines centella asiatica, known for supporting the skin’s collagen network, with marrubium vulgare, which helps protect the skin from external aggressors, among other carefully selected actives, according to Almora Botanica founder Ravi Prasad.
Aside from the absence of retinol or other non-pregnancy-safe ingredients, what sets this serum apart is the brand’s meticulous selection process for its botanical ingredients. “Our botanical ingredients undergo thorough screening for contaminants, including heavy metals and microbial and fungal contaminants. We also take care to avoid unwanted materials such as microplastics,” says Prasad.
The efficacy of this formula is further enhanced by its delivery system. The serum is based on the brand’s SAPTA Complex, a patented oil-in-water emulsion that carries micro-droplets of seven natural oils, helping the actives penetrate deeper into the skin compared to a standard water-based serum.

After approximately six weeks, my skin appeared plumper, and my forehead lines were visibly softer. Almora Botanica supports the serum with multiple studies. A clinical study after 12 weeks reported a 50 percent decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In a consumer study, all users experienced a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improvements in hydration, texture, plumpness, and radiance.
In addition to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, the formula also enhances cellular oxygenation and restores elasticity and firmness, resulting in a refreshed look even during times of fatigue.
Although the changes were more subtle compared to prescription retinol, there was no peeling, redness, or adjustment period, making it a significant win, especially during other bodily changes. The results were impressive enough for me to not miss my retinol and to continue using this serum throughout my postpartum journey.
