Why Does My Cat Want To Touch Noses With Me?

Felines have their own unique way of greeting each other. They engage in behaviors such as rubbing faces, butt each other with their heads, and touching noses. It’s natural for your cat to want to greet you in a similar manner, even though you may be much taller than them.

Put yourself in your cat’s paws for a moment. In their world, creatures your size would typically be seen as a threat. However, your cat has learned to trust you based on your interactions. Your size, combined with your friendly demeanor, can be confusing to your cat and they may struggle to understand how to react to you. In their mind, they may perceive you as being cat-sized or at least not large enough to pose a threat.

Your cat treats you like a member of their feline family. They may nuzzle you, rub their face against you, and even touch noses with you as a sign of affection.

Despite finding us humans strange and unfamiliar, cats still manage to love us unconditionally. They may view us as the oddest looking cats they’ve ever encountered, but they accept us as part of their family. My own cat, raised with a sense of Southern hospitality, probably looks at me with a mix of amusement and affection, always eager to greet me and touch noses.
