When evaluating and placing performance mares, it is important to consider factors such as overall balance, structural correctness, breed and sex characteristics, and muscling. A good horse will stand out and catch your eye, almost as if they are silently asking to be chosen. I always look for a good profile in a horse, trusting my instinct to be drawn to it initially. I then ask myself a series of questions about each horse to ensure I am making the right decision based on the basics.
