A Decade Under This Roof

Ten years have flown by in our home! It’s hard to believe how time has passed. Reflecting on the past decade, I remember my first blog post about our home back in August 24, 2016. At that time, our house was a 3,449 square foot hot mess, and we had just moved in to live with my father-in-law. Little did we know that we would still be here all these years later!

Back then, I had a six-month-old baby, Dan had a new job, and our house was filled with furniture. I was eager to start tackling home projects, but I knew I had to take things one day at a time.

The First Home Project We Tackled

The laundry room was the first project I took on. It was in desperate need of some love, so I decided to participate in the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home. This challenge allowed me to makeover a room in our house in six weeks, and I was thrilled with the results.

We started by adding new appliances, a butcher block countertop, subway tile, flooring, a wood feature wall, navy paint, cabinets, and a modern floating bench. I was so proud of the transformation! But as our family grew, we needed more cabinet space, so we decided to refresh the laundry room once again, this time with DIY built-ins and hidden shoe storage.

Our laundry/mud room is now complete with ship lap panels and a paint color that people still ask me about. It’s one of my favorite spaces in the house.

Watching Nurseries Come to Life

It’s been a joy to watch our family grow in this house. From our first nursery to customizing rooms for each of my kids, it’s been a rewarding experience.

Designing and decorating modern vintage kids’ rooms has become my specialty. I’ve enjoyed adding special touches and earthy tones to create unique spaces for my children.

As I became more comfortable with layering and finding cohesive textures, I designed rooms that reflected my children’s personalities. Each room was a labor of love, with special details like the pink scalloped wall in Eloise’s big girl room.

My passion for designing nurseries continued with Savio’s room, which took two years to finish. It was a bittersweet moment to complete the last nursery for one of my own kids.

Designing and Transforming the Heart of Our Home

Our kitchen was one of the last major projects we tackled, and I’m grateful for the timing. It was in desperate need of an upgrade when we first moved in.

We gave the kitchen a cosmetic update by painting the black tile backsplash, adding trim to the cabinets, and making a few decorative changes along the way.

The final result is my dream kitchen, and it brings a smile to my face every day. The warm, modern European style reflects our vision for a timeless and functional space that feels inviting and elevated.

Our Primary Bedroom Refresh

Despite our busy days with the kids, we wanted our primary bedroom to be a cozy retreat for relaxation. Inspired by old-world European interiors, we incorporated rich textures, dark wood paneling, limewashed walls, custom built-ins, and vintage pieces to create a warm and inviting space.

Every update was made with the goal of making the room feel personal and reflective of our evolving style. Transforming the mantel was one of my favorite parts of the project.

Re-Imaging Our Living Room

We re-imagined our living room to create a functional and cozy space for the whole family to enjoy. One of the significant changes we made was adding a custom DIY t.v. stand with sliding doors. This project allowed us to achieve a designer look at a fraction of the cost.

Recently, we added a transom wall between the living room and dining room to create a softer and cozier vibe. Details like this have been consistent in our home redesign, aiming to make every space feel comfortable and inviting.

You Can’t Forget About the Dining Room

The dining room has also undergone several makeovers over the years. What was once a workshop for my small business is now a space for family meals and gatherings. Adding a gallery wall and a new dining table has transformed the room into a cozy and inviting space.

Ten Years of Love & Lots of Projects

Over the past ten years, we’ve made significant changes to our home and grown as a family. From painting the exterior to creating a relaxing backyard oasis, each project has been a labor of love.

I am grateful for the community that surrounds me in all things interior design and decor. Whether you’ve been following along for one month or one decade, thank you for being a part of this journey. Stay tuned for more to come!
