Embarking on the journey of helping Chrissy and Peter renovate their kitchen has been an exciting and rewarding experience. As the first participants in the Renovation Coach series, this sweet couple with three kids under the age of 3 have embarked on the mission to transform their 90s-built home into a space that suits their needs and style. Their aspirations include adding a primary bedroom, moving the powder bath, creating a mudroom, relocating the washer/dryer, and revamping the kitchen. The challenge is significant, but with their determination and good taste, they are ready to tackle it.

The Kitchen Transformation

When Chrissy and Peter first moved in, the kitchen was far from their ideal space. From the outdated design to the lack of storage, the kitchen needed a complete overhaul. They have already made some changes, such as replacing the flooring with wide plank wood and exploring different layouts. However, the main challenges lie in integrating new elements like cabinets, appliances, and creating a cohesive flow in the space.

Chrissy’s initial mockup included extending the kitchen into the adjacent space and adding more storage and a larger island. However, structural elements like the ceiling levels posed a challenge. The design process involved addressing various issues, such as maintaining structural integrity, relocating the sink, and optimizing storage while ensuring a visually appealing layout.

One of the key considerations was the integration of a new pantry area and a dining banquette. By reimagining the space and incorporating clever storage solutions, Chrissy and Peter aimed to create a functional and beautiful kitchen that meets their needs.

Moving Forward

With new ideas and potential solutions in mind, Chrissy and Peter have homework to do to ensure that the proposed layout will work effectively within the kitchen footprint. By taking inventory of their kitchen items and mapping out storage needs based on the new design, they can optimize the space and address any potential storage issues.

As they embark on this kitchen renovation journey, Chrissy and Peter’s determination and hands-on approach are commendable. By managing the project themselves and working closely with subcontractors, they aim to achieve their dream kitchen in under 3 months. The next steps involve finalizing the layout, selecting materials, and bringing their vision to life.

This documentation of Chrissy and Peter’s renovation project serves as a valuable resource for those embarking on their own home improvement projects. Stay tuned for updates on the progress and insights gained from this inspiring renovation journey.
