Upgrayed and Casey Deary emerged victorious at the All American Quarter Horse Congress Open Reining Futurity, securing a substantial prize for owner Jose Fernando Fagundes. Their impressive performance earned them a score of 224.5 on Oct. 3 in Columbus, Ohio, resulting in winnings of $50,000 in the All Star Reining Stakes Level 4 Open Futurity, an additional $83,214 in the Oswood Stallion Advantage Open Reining Level 4 Futurity, and $50,000 in the NRHA Open Reining Level 4 Futurity.
Upgrayed wasn’t the only standout horse at the Congress event. Im Gunna Bee (ridden by Kaci O’Rourke), Spooky Booo (ridden by Cade McCutcheon), Bad Companyy (ridden by Kole Price), and Sixty Six Stops (ridden by Jordan Larson) all tied for reserve with a score of 223.5 in the NRHA Open Reining Level 4 Futurity and the All Star Reining Stakes Level 4 Open Futurity. The top three also shared the reserve title in the Oswood Stallion Advantage Open Reining Level 4 Futurity, each earning over $75,000 across the three competitions. Sixty Six Stops also claimed victory in the NRHA Open Reining Level 3 Futurity and the All Star Reining Stakes Level 3 Open Futurity. Eight Oh Five and Jack Daniels secured the win in the Oswood Stallion Advantage Open Reining Level 3 Futurity, earning $39,798, while All Cocoa No Cream and Joe Schmidt swept the NRHA, All Star, and Oswood Level 2 Open futurities.
The Congress event serves as a crucial stop on the pre-futurity trail, with all eyes now turning to the upcoming NRHA Futurity, scheduled for Nov. 23-Dec. 5 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds as it commemorates its 60th anniversary. For the horses that excelled in Columbus and took home prizes, the Congress event proved to be a significant confidence boost as they head to Oklahoma City.
