David Harbers and Don Lamont pulled off an impressive victory at the Cinch RSNC South Central Regional Super Sort in Waco, Texas, securing the US Rider #5 Gold Shootout title by sorting 23 head in 166.63 seconds, earning $3,990.

The win almost didn’t happen, as Harbers was contemplating stepping away from ranch sorting. As their final run unfolded, things were looking grim. With only three or four cattle sorted halfway through, the pressure was on to make something happen without causing chaos in the herd. Suddenly, the cattle surged towards the gate.

“All of a sudden, I went after a cow and they all came to the gate,” Lamont explained.

Harbers, working the gate on his blue roan mare, Charlie, found himself tasked with turning almost the entire herd while Lamont maneuvered inside.

As the clock ticked down, the remaining cattle aligned perfectly, allowing Lamont and Harbers to sort off the winning 10 head.

For Harbers, the victory represented more than just a paycheck. After feeling disillusioned with the sport, his new horse, Charlie, reignited his passion. The 6-year-old mare, sired by One Fabulous Time, showcased her abilities at the event, impressing everyone.

David Harbers’ mare “Charlie” has reignited his ranch sorting flame.

Together, Harbers and Lamont decided to target the US Rider #5 Gold Shootout in Waco, leveraging their skills and experience to secure the victory. Lamont, a #3-rated sorter, highlighted the strong partnership they had that made them a formidable team.

With renewed enthusiasm and confidence, both Harbers and Lamont are gearing up for the Cinch RSNC World Finals, fueled by the success in Waco. Harbers has even invested in a new futurity horse and expanded his competition schedule, while Lamont is optimistic about their prospects at the upcoming World Finals.
