In the world of cutting, success is often measured horse by horse. In 2025, cutting trainer Lee Francois experienced a rare full-circle moment that can be traced back to a single broodmare, Reys Desire.

During that year, Francois achieved the title of 2025 NCHA Open Reserve World Champion with Preachersdrinknagain, while Sistersonthewagon, the full sister of the champion horse, was named the 2025 NCHA Futurity Co-Reserve Champion. Both horses, sired by Metallic Cat, were peaking simultaneously and shared the same dam: Reys Desire.

For Holly and Lee Francois, the symmetry was almost surreal, especially considering that Reys Desire had once been out of their lives completely.

Reys Desire and Lee Francois’ Beginnings

Prior to her offspring making headlines, Reys Desire was a young mare in training owned by Woody Bartlett. She showed promise, but her true potential was yet to be fully realized.

At the 2009 NCHA Futurity, Lee showcased Reys Desire, and she exceeded all expectations. Despite initial doubts, the mare showcased her true potential and went on to earn significant accolades in the cutting world.

Reys Desire’s success attracted attention and lucrative offers, but Bartlett chose to keep her, eventually transitioning her into a successful broodmare.

Preserving Bartlett’s Legacy

Following Bartlett’s passing, there was concern about the future of Reys Desire’s breeding program. However, with the help of dedicated individuals like Milton Scott, the program continued successfully.

Reys Desire’s offspring excelled in both cutting and reined cow horse events, with notable achievements in the industry.

Despite the emotional challenges of the dispersal, Reys Desire found her way back to the Francois family, thanks to the efforts of Leslyn Wallace and Bobby Patton.

Continuing the Legacy

The journey didn’t end with Reys Desire’s return. Leslyn Wallace’s involvement in the Francois program and her dedication to honoring the legacy of Reys Desire have paved the way for new opportunities and successes.

This new chapter is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and the enduring impact of a single horse on multiple generations.

A Legacy Continued

Reys Desire’s story is far from over. As she anticipates new embryos and future breeding contracts, her legacy lives on through her descendants and the individuals who cherish her.

The journey of Reys Desire and her descendants serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of passion, commitment, and belief in the potential of a single horse.

As Reys Desire enters a new chapter in her life, her presence continues to inspire those around her, symbolizing the enduring legacy of a true champion.
