James Bradley Mitchell Secures Victory with Smooth Metallica in the 4-Year-Old Open
NCHA $3 Million Rider James Bradley Mitchell guided Smooth Metallica (Smooth Talkin Style x Metallic Alley) to the top of the 4-Year-Old Open leaderboard at the 2026 Augusta Futurity, clinching the championship with a score of 222. In a closely contested class where scores remained tight throughout the finals, Mitchell and Smooth Metallica’s performance proved to be the winning one, earning over $47,000 in class earnings and incentives for owners Brad and Anna Mitchell.
The victory marked a significant early-season achievement for the 2022 red roan gelding, who continues to progress on a solid foundation established in his 3-year-old year. Just a few weeks prior, Mitchell and Smooth Metallica competed at the 2025 NCHA Futurity, finishing 17th with a score of 210, adding over $36,000 to the gelding’s earnings.
Gavin Callahan and Rebelious Lil Sister Repeat Victory in the 5/6-Year-Old Open
The Augusta Futurity continues to be a successful event for Gavin Callahan and Rebelious Lil Sister (Metallic Rebel x Catscratch Sister), as they once again claimed the 5/6-Year-Old Open title in 2026. After winning the 4-Year-Old Open Championship at Augusta in 2025, the duo returned this year to add another impressive win to their record.
The 2021 red roan mare, affectionately known as ‘Aubrey,’ delivered a standout performance in the finals, scoring a commanding 225. This score placed Callahan comfortably ahead of the competition by six points and earned over $22,000 in class earnings and incentives for owner C4 Cutting Horses LLC of Rocky Point, North Carolina.
